Time is slippery.
It can move slow in one direction and simultaneously fast in another.
In a crisis the bits of information come together slowly.
And yet this is happening too fast.
We should have seen the signs
She fainted (at the eye doctor’s)
She wasn’t feeling well.
She had been off.
The doctor made at appointment to see her in two weeks.
This alleviated our concern,
But looking at it backwards the signs are easy to spot.
Women don’t always experience heart attacks like men.
And now we are in a deathwatch.
Waiting to see what happens next.
Every moment and ring of the phone is heavy.
There is silence in the air.
Finality
Waiting.
All we can do.
May her suffering be at an end.
May the cycle break this time.
