This is a space where I have a mid life crisis, write about my creative journey, and talk about songwriting and share bits of terrible poetry.

Malicious Compliance

(A Profane Poem For Profane Times)

Hey soldier,
You don’t have to do a good job.
Listen, you aren’t even supposed to be here.
American Troops are not the local police.
and this wasn’t what you signed up for
so many years ago
how could you even know?
time put in.
benefits earned.
they have you where they want you.
you have no choice but to obey.

but there is some wiggle room

you can walk a little slower
March just out of step.

brother, I’m sorry they roped you into this mess.

you don’t have the shove them so hard.
be gentle when you throw them into a car.

they ain’t gonna know if your not bringing you best.
