This is a space where I have a mid life crisis, write about my creative journey, and talk about songwriting and share bits of terrible poetry.

Just Bring It

If I could say one thing.
We all appreciate what these performers do.
They put their body through.
What they give to show up for us.
Let’s give them applause and pay them what they are worth.

But.
Art is not just for celebrity, the gifted, the prodigies, the virtuoso
Art is for everybody
It’s for Tom who stays up at night strumming his guitar.
It’s for Emily who became obsessed with the moon and started painting over and over.
It’s for Kaitlyn and her photographs.
It is for me trying to find words and define spaces.
It is a fundamental human right, divinely given.
It is how we imitate god.

It brings us close to creation.

Who gives a fuck if Justin Vernon approves of your poems?
Ain’t nobody gonna give you permission to.
If you have an idea pursue it.
Maybe it will be a dead end.
Maybe it will be something, some little nugget of you to leave behind.

I wrote these words on the internet once and now they might live forever and someone 100 years from now will find them.

Art can outlive us.
It’s how we make our mark.

It may be very hard to make a living from the pursuit of art,
But it is a fundamental part of living and being human.
We don’t need a computer facsimile.
We need you. And what you bring.

So, please. Just Bring it.
