This isn’t exactly a poem, but a lot of us poets have been talking and we are kindof troubled.
AI floods social media with AI writing and then we use AI to sort what was human and what was machine. That’s terribly dystopian. Isn’t it.
You have to prove you aren’t a robot online, and I have to say sometimes I can’t pass the tests :).
However I’m not an absolutist. I think the discussion and fear about AI is actually a different problem.
It is not necessarily AI that is the problem.
It is the dehumanization of people that the tech geniuses are pushing.
The people who equate production and content creation with thought and art.
The idea that more cheap content is better than a long slow drawn out process.
That your worth is how you contribute to the economy and how you monetize it.
That creativity and human thinking should be outsourced when possible.
These things aren’t AI.
(Although AI was programmed by people who hold these views, which may be a problem)
They are a brand of very human nihilism and greed that is poisoning our body poltic and industry.
In my view creativity is a sacred act, and although maybe you could use AI around the edges to automate things you find difficult, you should be wary of doing so, bc it is a slippery slope.
You have to remain in control of your creativity.
You are the ultimate editor.
AI is the devil at the cross roads promising you greatness for your soul.
But the greatness it offers isn’t the skill of Robert Johnson or grandma Moses.
It’s an empty cup.
I think it’s the constant dehumanization that has many of us so blue.
We need to pushback on these attitudes where possible.
Make art. Not Content.
(As she makes content)
