The deck is coated in the thinnest layer of frost.
I slipped out back to peak at the stars.
I brought the plants in last night just in case.
A few plugs to start the garden.
Even is we are too tired to plant what we should
Before the ground freezes.
They will be a promise for spring.
Wild mint and bee balm.
I need to spend the winter reading about native gardens.
A fresh slate and we don’t know how to begin.
Might as well start with what is given to us.
This will be the work of many years.
And doesn’t need to be rushed.
